Ikea is retiring Trådfri: New smart home center officially announced
Ikea has officially confirmed in its “Launch Book” that there will soon be a new hub for the smart home. An app for intelligent control is also to appear in parallel, offering new options for personalization. It starts in October.
Ikea: Dirigera hub and new app from October
It has been known for a long time that Ikea is working on a new hub for the smart home. A lot of information about the name and the characteristics of the small headquarters has already been made public. Now Ikea has it Dirigera hub and the right app for the smart home officially confirmed and announced (source: Caschy’s blog).
In contrast to the previous gateway Trådfri, Dirigera should primarily draw attention to itself through Matter support. The industry standard for the smart home ensures that devices from different manufacturers communicate better with each other can and the compatibility increases in general. Apple, Amazon, Google, Samsung and Ikea are among others.
The Dirigera hub will have a USB-C port for power delivery and can be wall mounted or placed flat. Dirigera, according to Ikea “improved and simplified”. Compared to the Trådfri hub, the successor is a bit wider, but is only half as high.

Ikea: New app for the smart home
With the new app for the smart home, Ikea promises its customers more personalization options. Ikea has not yet revealed exactly what that will be. The app should also be designed to be more user-friendly. According to Ikea, the connection between the Dirigera hub and the app is faster. Trådfri owners cannot use the app, they will only receive security updates in the future.
