I wish I had known about this PS5 setting from the start

Switching on the PlayStation controller, waiting for the PS5 to boot up, then pressing the X button again to log in with the only profile on my console – it’s annoying. But I recently discovered a setting in the PS5 menu that at least takes the last step off my hands.

This is how you log in automatically when you start the PS5

I’ll admit it: I’m one of those people who actually still turns off their PS5 completely every night instead of putting it on standby to save a bit of power – even if it doesn’t exactly make the cabbage fat.

While this means that I have to wait a few seconds each time for my console to wake up from its deep slumber, I can live with that. However, what gets on my nerves every time is that I every time I start the console, I have to explain which profile I actually want to log in with – although there is only one profile on my PS5.

While that’s not a big deal – a quick tap of the X button is enough to confirm the already highlighted profile selection – I’m still bothered by this unnecessary delay.

I was all the more pleased when I discovered a setting in the system menu of the PS5 that relieves me of exactly this annoying step and me automatically logs in with my profile after starting my PS5:

• Switches to the settings menu of the PS5.
• Scroll down to “Users and Accounts”.
• Now select the menu item “Login Settings”.
• Enable the switch on “Automatically sign in to PS5”.

But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. In fact, it’s well worth it for all PS5 owners to take a few minutes to familiarize themselves with the options in System Preferences.

And if you want to mute your microphone, you have to do it no awkward clicking through the menus. A quick tap of the button on the PS5 controller, which is located under the PlayStation logo, is all it takes and an orange glow will indicate that the mute function is activated.
