“I combine the lunch break with walking meetings” – Peer Schulz from Helpcheck
In the “5 things I can’t work without” series, we ask web workers what they cannot do without in their job. Today guest: Peer Schulz from Helpcheck.
Peer Schulz is the founder and managing director of the Düsseldorf legal tech Helpcheck. The portal specializes in enforcing legal claims for consumers on a success basis. In the meantime, the company has grown into a popular legal tech provider in Germany and has initiated proceedings in which claims of more than 50 million euros are currently being negotiated in court. In the series “5 things I can’t work without”, Peer Schulz reveals how he escapes the home office bug, what’s in his fridge and how to keep a legal tech startup in step.

5 things I can’t work without: Peer Schulz from Helpcheck
Team: The most important thing is my team! Since we have grown a lot in recent years, I am unfortunately no longer able to contribute everywhere. That’s why I rely on my colleagues in many aspects and also know that I can do that at any time. This gives me the opportunity to focus on my topics and I know that the other projects are in good hands. This is something that you have to learn quickly as a founder in order to move forward.
Dashboards: Since we developed our Legaltech platform ourselves from the start, it goes without saying that we collect and process data holistically. In this way, we can check the most important KPIs on a daily basis in order to identify changes at an early stage and counteract them. For a startup like us in particular, it is extremely important to always have the essential key figures in view.
Walking meetings: Since we’ve been in the home office, I’ve acquired a routine to physically structure the day. Early in the morning before work I go for a walk, listen to podcasts and arrange the tasks for the day directly or sometimes even make the first calls. Running stimulates creativity and gets the circulation going. I like to combine the lunch break with “walking meetings” so that I can always speak to colleagues personally despite the home office phase.
Cola Zero: This may not necessarily fit into the startup cliché box, but Cola Zero is simply the drink of choice for me. The perfect addition to coffee: it doesn’t make you fat and keeps you awake if the working day gets a little longer again.
Smartphone and Airpods: These two gadgets are my constant companion for everything – be it notes, calls, ideas. Everything is recorded, shared, processed and discussed. If I’m in the car, I often talk to Siri too. So often now that it doesn’t seem strange to me to talk to my car like KITT from “Knight Rider”.
