How does downloading music from Spotify work in a Wear OS watch?
After Samsung announced the arrival of the Galaxy Watch4, a large number of consecutive steps were launched around it improved Wear OS. Fans of modern contactless payment have certainly appreciated, for example, the official availability of Google Pay within this environment. For example, YouTube Music, for example, has finally spoken in Wear OS. The new watch system and the noise around it pushed other developers to introduce new features. For example Spotify has finally managed to introduce music downloads directly to the watch. It is available for models with Wear OS 2 and later.

To use this function, it is of course necessary to have the Spotify application in the watch first. It is therefore necessary to download it through the Play Store, if it was not already in the watch from the manufacturer. After its installation, the user is then prompted to connect through the pairing site. After a simple verification of the data it contains copying the multi-digit code, it is possible to continue the application in the watch. The next steps are very simple. Let’s add that downloading songs is allowed (and not only in this case for watches) only for paid users this service. The exception is podcasts.

How to do it?
- open the Spotify app in your watch
- go to the playlist, album, or podcast episode tab
- Click Download to Watch
Successfully downloaded content is displayed in the Downloaded menu and is clearly distinguished by a green arrow throughout the application. The function is (at least for now) obviously a bit limited in what and how much can be downloaded. For watches, for example you cannot send one specific song, but only entire playlists. For podcasts, which would offer a comfortable download of all episodes, especially for shorter series, only one episode can be downloaded again. It is also necessary to take into account that the Spotify application can view or browse only content that you have in playlists or favorites on a mobile phone or PC. You will not be able to search for new songs or podcasts from the watch.

Unfortunately, the watch application is also awkward from the point of view that it does not contain your entire library. Spotify offers you to download and listen playlists, alba and podcasts based on custom filters such as “A lot of fun”, “Your favorite shows” or “Jump back”. So if you want to send an older album on your wrist that you haven’t heard in a year, you probably won’t see it there, and first you need to run it on your mobile phone or PC to jump up.
