Hopium Machina: luxury, design and zero particles; the advantages of the first French hydrogen car
Hopium Machina is the name of the first French hydrogen car. The startup behind this project has given itself the means to fight against the automotive giants already established in this “niche” automotive sector, such as Toyota, Hyundai and even BMW. The Hopium company was founded by racing driver Olivier Lombard, a guarantee of seriousness further reinforced by the group’s latest press release. The start-up announces that its first factory will be based in Douains and will occupy a total area of 35 hectares. 1,500 employees will work in this production unit, which is scheduled to open in 2024. The objective is more than ambitious: Hopium hopes to produce (and sell) more than 20,000 hydrogen cars each year from 2025.

One of the main advantages of a hydrogen vehicle is that it works with a fuel cell, which is much less polluting than a thermal car. So certainly, the Hopium Machina is a luxury sedan billed at 120,000 euros – not enough to democratize the hydrogen car – but the specifications announced are exceptional, with in particular a range of 1000 km and a power of 500 hp under the hood. To top it all off, the design of this car monster lives up to its performance, not to mention that the Hopium Machina does not reject any fine particles (well yes, necessarily a little at the level of the tires). It will be possible to admire this innovative sedan at the Mondial de l’Automobile which will take place in Paris from October 17 to 24, 2022.
