What are cinematic wallpapers?
Cinematic wallpapers are basically the same as the “cinematic photos” you can take in Google Photos. You add a cinematic effect to your photos, giving the scene a three-dimensional representation. The cinematic wallpapers use machine learning on your phone to analyze an image and separate the subject from the background. Then a depth effect is created.
These wallpapers were released along with the Generative AI wallpapers and emoji wallpapers. In the case of the cinematic wallpapers, you can turn any photo into a more dynamic 3D image for your home screen. Please note that these 3D wallpapers are currently only available on Pixel 6 or newer Pixel phones.

How to create cinematic wallpapers on Android?
Do you have a Pixel 6a or newer? Then follow the simple steps below.
- Tap an empty area on a home screen and tap Background and style
- Tap on More wallpapers and then up My pictures
- Now choose a photo that you want to adjust and tap the round button with the stars at the top right
- Tap the button next to Create cinematic backdrop and wait for the 3D effect to be applied
- Then tap Set wallpaper
Will the cinematic wallpapers also come to other phones?
The cinematic wallpapers can now only be used on Pixel 6 or newer Pixel phones. Google said at launch that they’re coming to Pixel devices first. That means that the function will also come to other smartphones at a later date. Unfortunately, we do not know when that is and which phones are involved.
