Hear fake bankers catching card details
Efforts to provoke acute panic due to an alleged threat, to enforce an immediate and ill-considered reaction, and to further psychological manipulation. These are the practices of so-called vishing, in which an insidious attacker tries out of his victim lure for example important access data under an artificial impression of urgency. A very interesting case was discovered and described in this area by the News List server. It includes Česká spořitelna, its client and one very specific fraudulent phone call.
George Česká spořitelna
The editorial office received an audio recording of the call from this Czech bank, in which a typical case of vishing is captured with almost all the details (names are beeped and voices are modulated). The older lady, obviously sleepy and startled, calls a stranger a man posing as a bank representative. And he claims that someone is trying to make payments abroad from the client’s payment card. According to him, the woman should react quickly by communicating all card details including control triple digits. The more than five-minute conversation finally ends with the timely intervention of a conscious husband. Otherwise, the woman could easily lose her savings.
The published fraudulent phone call provided by Česká spořitelna is now intended to instruct not only its clients. It is clear from the call that the attacker only needed to know the phone number and name to raise concerns. He did not even mention the name of a specific company. It was not necessary. And the scam was almost completely successful anyway. Representatives of the savings bank warn that in the event of blocking the payment card identification of the card itself is never required, but vice versa the client. Both through the mobile application and when connected to the infoline. Never share card information with anyone you trust. And this also applies, for example, to access data to internet banking. Attackers can be very convincing these days.
