Have you ever suffered from overheating on your phone or wearable?

Phones and smartwatches can be impressive, but overheating can throw a spanner in the works. It ensures that the battery is empty faster, that the performance is limited and it makes a device less pleasant to use. In this AW Poll we ask if you have ever suffered from overheating with telephones or wearables.

Overheating

This week it was announced that a lawsuit against Google has been started by two users of Fitbit watches. They claim that their smartwatch caused burns from overheating and in court documents they read a laundry list of Fitbit products that all have the same problem.

Overheating is a more common problem with electronic devices. In 2015, for example, it was a problem of many flagships that work with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810, then the most powerful chipset of the brand. Some smartphone brands today use an algorithm that manages the performance of apps to avoid overheating and allow better battery life.

On the other hand, there could be more to it than just a hardware problem. There is also the possibility that your phone contains malware. Malicious apps can make your phone work unnecessarily, for example by secretly mining cryptocurrencies using your smartphone’s processing power. Such a software problem can also cause overheating.

AW Poll

This week we ask in the AW Poll whether you have ever had to deal with a smartphone, smartwatch or fitness trackers where the housing felt abnormally warm at times. And by ‘abnormal’ we mean so hot that a touch on the hand or wrist hurts. Was it ever so bad that you got minor burns? Vote in this AW Poll and tell us about your experiences in the comments at the bottom of this article.
