HarmonyOS is official and first products under Huawei’s OS are available

Huawei has just unveiled HarmonyOS. The in-house operating system developed by the manufacturer will spread its wings on many products. The brand even launched products compatible with the new OS.

The messiah has finally arrived. Since May 2019, Huawei has been stuck in US sanctions. The decision taken by Donald Trump had disastrous consequences for the company since the fall in sales is inexorable for the brand. The solution found by it to overcome this fall was the development of its operating system called HarmonyOS. This has just been presented during a conference lasting a few hours.

HarmonyOS seems to target an exclusively Chinese audience at first

The software was long overdue, but it is there. Huawei presents us with a unique operating system that will be deployed on several types of products. As mentioned in the rumors, HarmonyOS is largely inspired by the royalty-free versions of Android. It is even a fork, also incorporating some features of iOS. One of the strengths of the OS is its interconnection across several products. Indeed, it will be available on smartphones, tablets, connected watches, televisions as well as touch tablets. On the presentation made by Huawei, this will be especially useful in home automation with precise control of the connected objects in your home.

Of course, it is possible to make comparisons with Android, but Huawei also seeks to stand out. It is thus possible to transform the icons into widgets from your home screen. For the connection between two devices under HarmonyOS, the brand imagines a system of NFC stickers. It suffices to bring the two products together for this to happen. At present, Huawei’s ambition for its operating system is first to deploy it on the Chinese market. The will of the brand is then to deploy it on Western markets in an attempt to conquer it.

Which smartphones will go under the new OS?

Towards the end of this conference, Huawei first unveiled three new products. A MatePad Pro tablet and two smartwatches. For owners of a smartphone from the Chinese manufacturer, the brand has communicated the list of available devices. The update to HarmonyOS will begin as early as next week and run until the last quarter of 2022.
