‘Google wants privacy function comparable to iPhone in Android’

Google is investigating a way in which apps in Android only collect data from users to a limited extent. The new privacy feature will be similar to new features in iOS 14.5.

Privacy function

Google is considering making Android more privacy-friendly. The company is discussing internally how it can ensure that apps collect less data about users while not seeing a dip in their ad revenue. According to Bloomberg, Google is looking at Apple’s App Tracking Transparency feature for iOS 14.5.

Soon, Apple users will see a pop-up notification on their device when an app uses Apple’s ad targeting system. iPhone users will soon be able to choose for themselves whether they want such a personalized advertisement or not. A targeted ad is advertising that is based on the interests of that user, or collected data. Such advertising results in a higher revenue for the app in question, compared to advertising that is not adapted to the user’s profile.

A middle ground

The online advertising market has an annual revenue of $ 100 billion, and Google is looking to find a way to ensure privacy for users without causing the companies behind the apps to see their sales plummet. Google and Facebook both state that Apple’s new feature will have serious consequences for small businesses that monetize ads. It was previously clear that Gacebook and Apple have a serious disagreement on the matter.

“We’re always looking for ways to partner with developers to raise the privacy bar. At the same time, we also want to ensure a healthy ad-based ecosystem,” a Google spokesperson told Bloomberg. .

What can we expect?

It is therefore not yet clear what exactly we can expect from Google’s privacy function. In any case, it seems that the system that Google has in mind is less extensive than what Apple wants to introduce on the iPhone. It may not be a feature that shows you a pop-up notification that warns you about targeted ads. So you may have to dive deeper into the settings of apps or the Google Play Store to disable such advertising.
