Google Play: These are the most downloaded apps of all time

You’ll find a huge number of apps in the Google Play store, but only some of them will become really popular. Today, we’ll use Wikipedia to see a list of the most downloaded apps, which have received at least half a billion unique downloads in the Google Play store for free apps and at least 1 million for paid apps. One application even managed to exceed the limit of up to 10 billion downloads.

Many of the applications on this list are pre-installed on top-selling Android devices. Either because they are necessary for the system to work, or the manufacturer installed them only on the basis of cooperation with the developer.

Applications that have exceeded 500 million and 1 billion downloads

Half a billion unique downloads have been achieved by quite a number of applications from various categories, from the most famous ones such as Shazam, Messenger Lite, Pinterest, Telegram, Wish, Zoom or LinkedIn. Well-known titles such as Hill Climb Racing, the first and second episodes of Temple Run, Clash of Clans, PUBG Mobile and Pou are among the games. There are also applications that you are sure to know if you own a Huawei device, such as Huawei Themes, Huawei Mobile Services or Phone Clone.

The following applications reached the limit of 1 billion downloads, but have not yet reached the limit of 5 billion. This category was divided in half by pre-installed applications from Google, Microsoft and Samsung, followed by other popular applications.

These pre-installed include less used Google applications such as Google Play Books and Games, Google Duo, GBoard or Google Calendar. Samsung has Samsung Push Service, Browser, Gallery, Email or Samsung Health applications here. From Microsoft, there are Word, PowerPoint, Excel and OneDrive applications, some of which are pre-installed and others are not.

This list also includes Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat and TikTok social networks, along with Facebook Lite. Spotify, YouTube Music, Netflix or Skype are also available. There were also two games, namely Subway Surfers and Candy Crush Saga.

Pre-installed applications received 5 billion downloads

The category of 5-10 billion downloads was dominated by pre-installed applications from Google, such as YouTube, Maps, Gmail, Google Chrome or Google Drive. However, applications from Facebook also appeared there, specifically the mobile application of the social network, Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp Messenger.

So far, only one application has surpassed the 10 billion download limit

The list of the most downloaded applications in the Google Play store is dominated by one well-known application with more than 10 billion downloads. This is a Google Play Services app that no Android smartphone with Google Apps support can do without. She crossed this legendary frontier on August 1, 2020.

Of the paid applications, games in particular were in the ranking

Paid apps don’t have billions of downloads in the Play Store like they do for free, but only a few million. However, 1-5 million downloads have reached quite a few paid apps, mostly games of various genres. For example, there are also tools, photo and video editing applications or game emulators.

More than 5 million downloads, but less than 10 million, have been achieved by only four applications. These include True Skate, League of Stickman 2020 – Ninja Arena PVP, League of Stickman – Best action game and Poweramp Full Version Unlocker.

So far, only four paid games have surpassed the 10 million mark – Minecraft, Hitman Sniper, Stickman Legends: Shadow War and Shadow of Death: Dark Knight – Stickman Fighting.
