Google Play is about to change the app rating. We have been waiting for this
Probably everyone will recognize that app ratings in Google Play it is often misleading. The user sometimes has to encounter spam in reviews or fraudulent ratings. According to the portal AndroidPolice however, the rating in the official Android store should undergo a significant change soon and will better reflect the user’s preferences.
Ratings will only be shown to users in your country
Currently, the user is shown an average rating from all users for each application. Starting November of this year, you’ll only see ratings from people from the same country for apps or games. This will display the rating of the application, which was based on feedback from other Slovak owners of Android devices.
As a result, the average star rating in your country will also change. This step could help to better evaluate applications that are localized only in the local language. Such applications often receive a negative evaluation only because of the evaluator’s language barrier.
From next year, the ratings will also be sorted by type of facility
Another app rating change in the Google Play store is expected early next year. According to the portal AndroidPolice Google will further sort reviews and ratings by device type. Categories for tablets and flexible devices, Chrome OS, WearOS, Android Auto, and smartphones will be available.
This will help differentiate applications that often work great on smartphones, but have problems with tablets, for example. Another positive feature is the differentiation of applications that are not adapted for flexible devices. So far, they make up only a small part of the market and developers often do not think about them when designing the interface of their software.
All of these changes will affect developers, who will try to localize their application into multiple languages and adapt it to different devices.
