Google Maps is going to add route options for hybrid and electric cars
Eco-friendly routes were previously proposed as a new feature for Google Maps. Now it’s time for another new feature under development for the map service. Those with a hybrid or electric car get more options with Google Maps.
Google Maps with new route options
Google Maps is getting new features, which could be especially useful for those who own a hybrid or an electric car. Last year, Google announced it would roll out eco-friendly navigation, taking the environment into account when planning a route. For example, you can see an average CO2 emission for the route, and which one is better.
An improvement that is now in the pipeline builds on this functionality. In the new version of Google Maps, indications have been found for expanding this. In the future, you can indicate in Google Maps whether you own a hybrid or electric car. Handy, because not every car behaves the same in terms of fuel consumption. Electric cars are most efficient at a lower speed. With hybrid cars, consumption is lower in and around the city. When Google Maps has this information, it can better tailor its suggestions for routes.
Ultimately, users will see the options petrol, diesel, electric and hybrid in the Google Maps app, it becomes clear. It is not yet known when Google Maps will roll out the new features to the navigation app.
