Google Maps has 3 new navigation formats. Do you appreciate them all?
A few hours ago, Google announced the arrival of three handy new features in Maps. All will be about navigation and also “healthier” travel. About the first, planning a car route not by time or length, but according to consumption and environmental burden, we’ve heard. The other two are completely new to us and all the more interesting. One changes bike navigation style, the second will offer an overview of shared bikes and scooters in some other cities.

Ecological route planning for a car
Previously announced function, which is now officially aimed at the sharp version of the application. In addition to the shortest or fastest route, the maps will also calculate and offer the route with the least consumption. The application in this situation is aided not only by artificial intelligence, but also by data provided by the US Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory. It will be available in the US for now, but Google plans to expand to Europe as early as 2022.
Unfortunately, cyclonavigation in Google Maps does not work properly in the Czech Republic yet, but in regions where they are more fortunate, they can look forward to great improvements. Since it is often not desirable for the application to display every turn when cycling, this “turn-by-turn” mode can be turned off. The cyclist will see only the gradual course of the route, the change in altitude or the time until arrival at the destination.
The increasingly popular form (although probably not all residents of large city centers would agree with us) will take even more space in the Google Maps application in the form of ecologically and economically advantageous transport. At this point, the feature should be available in three hundred cities around the world. There is no information about the operation in Prague yet.
