Google Maps gets a useful feature from Waze navigation

When the company bought years ago Google application Waze, immediately began integrating some of its features into its own product Google Maps. Apparently, it has not yet copied everything from the popular community navigation. According to the portal PhoneArena from it now brings another useful feature to Google Maps.

Waze Navigation has been an inspiration for Google Maps for many years

Google bought Waze in 2013 for more than $ 1 billion. It has captivated the American giant by combining the benefits of navigation applications with the benefits of social networking. Its success is based on the fact that users share information about the traffic situation on the road in real time, and navigation can offer the user the fastest route.

It can alert you to an accident on the road or police speeding with radar. Google later integrated this and other features into its Google Maps. Meanwhile, Waze continues to operate alongside Google Maps and keeps its loyal users. And it still seems to be an inspiration for Google Maps.

Google Maps will start alerting you to a level crossing

Google Maps will soon receive a feature that alerts you to an approaching level crossing. A warning will appear at the bottom of the screen as “Expect a delay due to a level crossing”. The map shows the location of the level crossing by marking it with a round yellow icon with railway tracks. The function is not only to refine travel time, but also to increase road safety.

For example, on Slovak roads, at a distance of 50 meters in front of the railway crossing and when crossing it, the driver is obliged to drive at a speed of no more than 30 km / h. And if an intermittent white light is on on the level crossing, the driver is obliged to drive at a speed of no more than 50 km / h 50 meters in front of the level crossing and when passing it. By following these rules, you can also avoid a possible fine.

It should be noted, however, that this feature has not yet been officially announced by Google. He usually does so on the blog of his official website. It is not yet clear whether it will come first on the Android or iOS platform. It is not even known if it will work outside the US. However, the feature was discovered by a user of the social network Reddit with a nickname SamsungGalaxyPlayer, so it can be assumed that his screenshot comes from a Samsung smartphone running Android.
