Google has shown Android 12L. What can it do and which machines is it intended for?
A few hours ago, Google launched the Android 12L developer preview. The letter “L” in the name means “large” or “big” and this special version of Android will bring news and full of UI modifications for big screens on Chromebooks or tablets as well flexible displays. Attention will be focused on, for example a nicer and more efficient full-screen display of applications in these facilities. That’s why Google has created a new environment for developers to prepare their work.
Notification panel, quick settings menu, lock screen, desktop… all this should look different on the mentioned devices after the arrival of the Android 12L system. He gets a lot of space, for example split the content into two columns. On large screens, some elements will be shifted to the edge, while flexible phones will experience smoother “stretching” of content when fully open.
For more efficient multitasking in multiple windows or parts of a split screen, Google is preparing completely new range of applications. For example, the Samsung Galaxy Fold phones and their One UI now have. We also think of applications that are not and will not be ready for a large or flexible display. He will take care of you new compatibility mode. On the contrary, applications that are demonstrably ready for such screens will receive your own category or highlight in the Play Store.
The release is scheduled for early 2022 to correspond with the arrival of the first Android 12 Chromebooks, tablets and flexible mobile phones. Google cites the Lenovo P12 Pro as an example.
