Google declares war on ChatGPT with its own AI

The AI software ChatGPT has been on everyone’s lips since it was launched in November. But with the artificial intelligence “Google Bard” from Alphabet, ChatGPT could now face serious competition.

The US company OpenAI only launched its AI software ChatGPT in November 2022. Since then, the response to the application has literally gone through the roof. The artificial intelligence has also brought the company an investment of ten billion US dollars from Microsoft.

Now the tech giant has Google introduced to its ChatGPT competitors. In a first test phase, so-called “trusted testers” are to be given access to Google Bard. In the coming weeks, Google then wants to “make the AI software accessible to a broader public”.

Google introduces Bard AI software

Google describes artificial intelligence as “the most profound technology we are working on today”. With the help of its AI software Bard, the group wants to combine “the breadth of global knowledge with the performance, intelligence and creativity of our large language models”.

The Bard conversation service is based on Google’s LaMDA language model for dialog applications, on which the group has been working for two years. Bard is said to provide “up-to-date, high-quality answers” based on information from the Internet. Google wants to integrate this into its search “soon”.

Users should then no longer be able to just ask simple questions to the Google search. In the future, the search engine should also be able to help when users are looking for “different opinions and perspectives”.

AI can help in those moments by consolidating insights for questions that don’t have a single right answer.

Bard starts in a simplified version

Google is “initially” launching its AI software in a simplified model version. This model requires significantly less computing power and is therefore available to more people. The US group hopes for a larger amount of feedback in its test phase.

“We will combine external feedback with our own internal testing,” writes Google CEO Sundar Pichai in his blog post. This ensures that “Bard’s answers meet high standards of quality, security and realism”.

We look forward to this testing phase, which will help us continue to learn and improve the quality and speed of Bard.

Google Bard: The competition is putting pressure on

While Google presented its news about the AI software Bard on Monday, there are also news from Microsoft. Because the group announced an event at their company headquarters just one day after Google’s publication.

It could be about the integration of ChatGPT into the Bing search engine, How Bloomberg reported. Microsoft wants to challenge Google’s search dominance Bloomberg quoted an insider.
