Notifications in Gmail
Almost everyone who uses Gmail at work is familiar with it. The tab with your inbox remains open all day, but at the same time you are flooded by those same emails on your phone. Google is now taking a smarter approach with an improvement that is now being rolled out according to Android Police.
When opening Gmail on their PC, some users now see a new pop-up notification. In it, Gmail explains that it can pause mobile notifications if your mailbox is open on your PC. If you want to activate the feature, you must first give your browser permission to detect whether you are actively using your PC.
If the function works, incoming mails will still appear in Gmail on your phone, but you will no longer see notifications. Instead, you will still receive notifications on desktop. Once you have the feature, you can also enable and disable it in Chrome from: Settings -> Security & Privacy -> Site Settings -> Additional Content Settings.
Overload of notifications
On our phone, apps scream for our attention every day. Unfortunately, it makes apps such as Digital Wellbeing relevant and that is why it is good that Google is making efforts to combat the overload of notifications.
An important step is also the new permission for notifications in Android 13. Every app that you still want to send notifications on the new Android version must now first ask for permission. At the moment, any app can just send notifications on our phone and there is only the option to disable those notifications one by one afterwards.
