Amazon is bringing the free IMDb TV offer to Germany under the new name Freevee. It should be possible to see some exclusive Amazon content with commercial breaks. Amazon has not yet explained which films and series can be expected.

Amazon Freevee: IMDb TV comes to Germany

Amazon plans to rebrand video streaming portal IMDb TV later this month and later this year under the name Freevee in Germany. This is not a new subscription service such as Prime Video, Netflix or Disney+, as films and series are only offered free of charge.

Other than the announcement, remain some details unclear. For example, it has not yet been decided which films and series will also be made available in Germany by IMDb TV.

In the US, the offer includes around 8,200 films and more than 1,500 series. That’s significantly more than Amazon offers in Germany for Prime Video (3,912 films and 897 series). What is also certain, however, is that older content in particular is shown on IMDb TV. However, Amazon plans to increase the proportion of original films and series on Freevee by 70 percent.

How are Prime Video, Netflix and Disney+ different? The answer is here:

Like IMDb TV, Freevee is funded by advertising. Both before and during films and series there are commercial breaks that cannot be skipped. In films, there are some up to twelve advertising blocks, which users have to endure. IMDb TV has been available in the US since early 2019. According to Amazon, the service has seen strong growth over time (Source: golem.de).

Amazon Freevee: Launch still unknown

The group has not yet explained when exactly Amazon Freevee will be launched in this country. The free streaming service should not have any impact on Prime Video’s offering and prices.
