Fraudulent add-ons for Minecraft steal passwords to accounts
Are you, or perhaps your children, playing the mobile version of Minecraft? You should be wary of fraudulent tools that pretend to be useful additions to this worldwide popular title. Kaspersky recently unveiled in application stores over 20 malicious add-ons for Minecraftthat attracted various feature enhancements. Although these unwanted applications have already been removed from official stores, experts have come across others that are abusing the popular game and making it fraudulent. Some fake accessories can even steal passwords to accounts on popular social networks.
The experts analyzed various applications, including those that are available for download in the Google Play store and are called so-called modpacky (user-created packages with additional game elements). In particular, security analysts have discovered several applications that spread adware. That is, software that bombs users with unsolicited advertisements and thus disrupts the normal use of their devices.
These applications do so it doesn’t even have to be opento display ads at the behest of a fraudster. In addition, they can load additional modules that allow them to hide their icons, as well as unexpectedly open the browser, application pages on Google Play, and display videos on YouTube. All this disrupts the use of a smartphone, but it is still the less annoying option.
Even more dangerous fake accessories steal social media bills. In one case, it was available on Google Play fake ad network application and fake client used for advertising on the TikTok platform. If a user has entered their Facebook credentials, their account has been stolen. Expert advice not only on Minecraft remains unchanged: Do not download modifications from suspicious sites or pirated software. The attackers are well aware of people’s desire for everything that is free, and benefits from malware hidden in infected applications, cheats, and mods.
