First discounter starts delivery service in Germany

Home deliveries have not only been on the rise since the pandemic, supermarkets have already jumped on the bandwagon, which is slowly picking up speed in Germany. Now the well-known German discounter Penny is taking its first steps and testing how the offer is received by customers.

Penny starts with delivery service: First stores in Hamburg, Berlin and Cologne

Anyone who thinks of discount supermarkets will inevitably first think of Aldi and Lidl as the heavyweights of the industry. But when it comes to delivery services, someone else is taking the first step: Penny is currently testing how great the demand is at several locations. The delivery of goods is tested initially at locations in Hamburg, Cologne and Berlin for several months (source: Food newspaper).

The entire Penny range is available for selection upon delivery, but the delivery quantity per order is limited to a total weight of 20 kg. Anyone who decides to deliver groceries pays the usual retail price as well as a delivery fee of 2.90 euros. Can be ordered directly from Penny’s website or in the discounter’s app.

For the offer, Penny works with the startup delivery service Bringoo. Within 45 minutes this is how the ordered shopping cart should arrive at home. If you want, you can also set a time window for delivery or pick up the goods yourself at the Penny store of your choice.

Further delivery partnerships are already being planned

As part of the Rewe Group, Penny can fall back on certain experiences with the pilot project. For example, markets of the Rewe Nahkauf line are also to take part. In the long term, Bringoo also plans to work with other local providers, including flower shops and pharmacies. For customers it can all shopping becomes easier.
