Voting guide apps for iPhone and iPad
To get straight to the point: technically there are no voting guide apps for your iPhone at all. The voting guides below do not have apps, but websites. However, all these voting aids have a website that is optimized for mobile devices.
1. StemWijzer
StemWijzer is so well known that it has become a category in itself, just like when people say “iPhone” but actually mean “smartphone”. So technically there is only one voting guide.
You can visit this by simply navigating to the official website. At that moment you will see the mobile version specially optimized for iPhones (and other smartphones). The voting guide puts several statements to you in which you must indicate to what extent you are satisfied with it.
Afterwards you will see which political parties your opinion agrees with. When filling in the election guide, you can see what their standpoints are per party. It is also possible to skip questions or fill in a neutral answer.
2. Dial compass
Another well-known ‘voting guide app’ is Kieskompas. This is made in collaboration with newspaper Trouw and not only gives participants voting advice, but also shows how your opinions fit into the political landscape. That way you find out whether you are more left, right, progressive or more conservative.
Incidentally, the design of the Kieskompas is similar to that of Stemwijzer. Based on statements you have to indicate whether you agree / disagree, blank votes or skip the question.
Extra nice is that you can go further into depth with the Kieskompas. For example, there is a special Electoral Compass for the themes of housing, care and education. If one of these themes is very important to you, you can go further in depth thanks to these specific dialing compasses.
3. PartiesWijzer
If you don’t really want to opt for a specific party program, then PartiesWijzer is worth a look. This voting aid ensures that – how could it be otherwise – you find out with which political party you (cannot) identify.
You do this by answering stimulating statements with the help of three stickers. The answer you feel most comfortable with gets first, the runner-up a second and the choice that doesn’t work for you a three.
The idea behind this ‘voting guide app’ is that you do not so much choose the political discussion points that are currently at issue, but the principles of a political party. This way you find out which club (most) adhere to your principles.
Other voting guide apps
There are also countless smaller voting guides. These ‘apps’ focus on a specific theme or target group, or measure your political preference through a method other than polls.
1. Keezers Quest
A good example of such an alternative voting guide is Keezer’s Quest. This voting guide game was created by the Zondag team with Lubach and will help you find the perfect match.
In the browser game you make your own doll who goes on an adventure with a dog in an 8-bit retro world. Along the way you will encounter all kinds of characters who want to ask you something or need help. Former 50 Plus leader Henk Krol, for example, wants to know how much sympathy you have for the elderly.
It’s best to play Keezers Quest on your Mac, but it works on your iPhone too. Simply press the link below to open the game in the Safari browser.
2. Technology Kieswijzer
Do you have a strong opinion about online privacy? Are you very concerned about the power of companies such as Facebook and Google and do you think that the Chamber lacks knowledge about these subjects? Then you should give the Technologie Kieswijzer a try.
This voting guide focuses entirely on these themes. Based on statements about online security, vulnerable IT systems and the spread of fake news you will find out which party suits you best.
3. Youth Electoral Guide
The name of this voice assistant speaks for itself. The Jongeren Kieswijzer tries to familiarize young people with the jungle of political parties. The website does this on the basis of themes that are very important to young people.
Consider, for example, Dutch education that continues to decline in international rankings, the growing shortage of internships and the increasingly difficult housing market. The Jongeren Kieswijzer uses your opinions on these themes to gauge which party corresponds with your vision of the future in the Netherlands.
4. Vote Tracker
A voice says more than a thousand words, is the idea behind the Voicetracker. This website keeps track of how the political parties from the House of Representatives have voted in the last cabinet term.
That way you find out whether the club has kept their promises. You can also use the VotingTracker to find out which parties are voting with each other, or are thwarting each other. This is especially useful for people who plan to vote tactically.
