“Find out what they know about you” and regain control of your personal data!
Facebook, Netflix, Tinder, Google, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, Apple, Amazon, LinkedIn… The list is very long of web companies that collect and use your data for their benefit without informing you clearly. Want to put an end to it? UFC-Que Choisir has just launched the tool JeNeSuisPasUneData.fr to help you.
“When it’s free, you’re the product!” It’s an open secret that still needs to be remembered: the giants (monsters?) of the Internet collect and largely take advantage of our private data at our expense to make a profit. All your online activity, your travels, your tastes, your failings, your fears, your health, your hobbies, your purchases are scrutinized, analyzed, classified and used to draw up a portrait of you as precise as possible which will allow you to products or services.
“Find out what they know about you”
On the strength of this observation, the UFC-Que Choisir association has just launched a major campaign and above all an online tool called I am not a data.fr. The idea is simple: “Find out what they know about you”in other words, requiring companies that profit from your online activity to provide you with an exhaustive list of the data they keep about you and if you wish to delete it.
“We propose to show the invisible”, explains Raphaël Bartloméhead of the legal department of UFC-Que Choisir. “In addition to what they collect, the platforms infer a lot about you. Internet users do not always measure the extent and especially the exploitation that is made of it. » Google for example “can know where you live, the places you frequent, the location of your business, know if you move on foot, by bike or by scooter”, “LinkedIn can deduce if you are unemployed, looking for work, if you want to go abroad, if you like your job. » And so on for each of the Internet services you use. These companies know “lots of things about us, a very fine composite portrait of us, members of your family, but all that is not inevitable. »
So how does it work ?
The principle is simple and that’s why we love it. Go to the tool RespectMesDatas.fr, choose the service that concerns you and follow the steps indicated by the site. You will be able to exercise your rights of rectification, deletion, and your right to be forgotten… In summary: regain control! Because as the UFC-Que Choisir explains on his website, “it is essential that consumers realize the importance of the data they leave on the Internet and the consequences that this can have on their lives, in a context, moreover, of cybercrime in full expansion. So it’s up to you!
