Finally, Oppo would not leave the European market despite its estrangement with Nokia
An uncertain time, the future of Oppo should therefore continue to go through Europe: despite the suspension of its activities in Germany, the result of its legal dispute with Nokia, Oppo would remain present on the European market. An official press release from the Chinese firm entrusted to journalist Andreas Floemer of the German site T3N confirms what looks like a strategic reversal. The press release recalls that the suspension of the brand’s activities in Germany (where Oppo has its European headquarters) is solely due to the German court’s decision to ban Oppo from advertising in the country. In other words, everywhere in Europe where justice has not ruled on the Nokia-Oppo affair, the Chinese manufacturer will continue to carry out these activities.
German justice could, however, oblige Oppo to pay 2.50 euros to Nokia for each Oppo/OnePlus smartphone sold worldwide (under unpaid patent licenses), an additional cost which will undoubtedly be deducted from the price of the smartphone and could therefore penalize sales. Oppo’s statement also suggests that the manufacturer will not hesitate to leave a European country if the latter applies sanctions similar to those taken by German justice…
