Finally more possible with WhatsApp on your desktop
We’ve been waiting for it for a while, but you can now do more with the WhatsApp desktop app. Read some here.
After months and months of testing, WhatsApp is finally launching the option to make voice and video calls with the WhatsApp desktop app. It is actually crazy that this was not yet possible, especially in this time of working from home and therefore staying at home. Many people use WhatsApp, but were forced to switch to other apps for video calling on a large screen. Like Zoom, it has grown enormously in recent times. Now it is finally possible to call your friends, family or colleagues with WhatsApp via your desktop video!
To test
Facebook’s chat giant started testing the WhatsApp desktop app last year. Selected users saw call and video chat icons marked “Beta” in the chat header. At the moment, anyone can use this feature when they want to talk to their contacts on a larger screen.
WhatsApp indicates in the announcement that many more people call each other, increasingly for long conversations. That makes sense, of course, people are using much more video and voice calling since the pandemic to stay in touch with the outside world. “ With so many people who are still far from their loved ones, adapting to new ways of working, we want conversations on WhatsApp to feel as personal as possible, no matter where you are in the world, ” realizes.
Bigger screen
Chatting is fast and fleeting, people want to see their loved ones right now. Video calls on a large screen are of course ideal for this. You are also more flexible to do other things, because your hands are free. WhatsApp voice and video calls are available in both portrait and landscape orientation. It would be even better if group conversations could take place, unfortunately this is not yet possible. WhatsApp is working on this to be able to roll it out as quickly as possible. So at the moment there are only one-to-one encrypted calls available on your WhatsApp desktop app.
