Everything you need to know about the winners of the ESC 2021
In 2021, Måneskin won for Italy at the ESC and has been on the road to success ever since. But what makes them so special? We introduce you to the young group.
How did Måneskin become famous?
The band Måneskin was founded in 2015 by Victoria de Angelis and Thomas Raggi while the two young musicians were still at school. About a year later, Damiano David and Ethan Torchio joined, and the four artists have made up the line-up of the Italian rock band ever since. Despite the group’s founding in Rome, they have opted for a Danish name, which translates to moonlight. At the beginning, Måneskin still performed in her hometown, later it took her to the show “X Factor”, where they placed second and got a record deal from Sony Music. Her first studio album was released in 2018 under the title “Il ballo della vita” and received triple platinum. They finally got their ticket to the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 by winning the traditional Italian Sanremo Festival. At the They also convinced ESC in Rotterdam with their song “Zitti e buoni”even if the lyrics had to be slightly censored for the performance, and returned home as winners.

Måneskin: Controversies about the band
Overall, the band has released three albums today (as of April 2023), the album “Rush!” released in 2023 reached number one in the charts in several countries. The band will also come to Germany with the album in 2023. You can find tickets for this at eventim. The young musicians bring a breath of fresh air to the Italian rock scene, but are also confronted with accusations. For one thing, singer Damiano was accused of during ESC 2021 used cocaine to have. He rejected this and asked of his own accord to undergo a drug test, which ended up being negative. In an interview with The Guardians In early 2023, Måneskin reported that, in part, because of their style queerbaiting accused of artificially trying to reach LGBTQ+ audiences. However, the band denies the allegations and argues that the sexuality of the individual members has nothing to do with their appearance.
