Everyone is ignoring this next-gen console
When gamers think of the power of next-gen, the PS5 and Xbox Series X usually come to mind. However, one console is always forgotten: the Xbox Series S. That’s a damn shame, because the cheap console variant from Microsoft is, in my opinion, the real star of the current console generation.
A commentary by Robert Kohlick.
Xbox Series S: next-gen console at a bargain price
When it comes to next-gen consoles, everyone thinks of the PS5 or Xbox Series X. One console is grossly neglected: the Xbox Series S And this despite the fact that, in my opinion, the console is the most interesting and promising device of the new generation. But what fascinates me so much about Microsoft’s light version of the Xbox Series X?
The biggest strength of the Xbox Series S is her fabulous value for money. While I have to shell out a whopping 500 euros and 550 euros respectively for the Xbox Series X and the disc version of the PlayStation 5, with the Xbox Series S I get a next-gen console at a bargain price. You can currently find them for about 220 euros – so you pay less than half compared to the big brother and the competition from Sony.
Sure, the Xbox Series S can’t keep up with the Series X in terms of performance – especially when it comes to graphics power. Nevertheless, Microsoft also relies on an lightning-fast SSD, ray tracing and 120 Hz support for the “Good and Cheap” model. All other important functions of the Xbox Series X can also be found in the Series S. So if you can do without your games flickering in native 4K on the TV, he can save a lot of money with the Xbox Series S.
For occasional gamers who don’t have to play everything right after the release, the console is doubly interesting. Because thanks to that Xbox Game Pass for 9.99 euros per month you get access to over 100 different games in one fell swoop. That will probably give you enough to play with for a while. And since what’s on offer in Game Pass is updated at regular intervals, you don’t run the risk of having played through everything at some point.
Microsoft’s compact Xbox is really chic!
But in my opinion, the Xbox Series S is not completely convincing on the data sheet. The body of the next-gen console, which is spurned by many, is also really impressive. While the Xbox Series X seems quite practical due to its angular design and fits in almost every living room cupboard in the world, the design of the PlayStation 5 is completely different in my opinion.
The Xbox Series S is not only significantly smaller than the other two models, but thanks to the large “radiator grille” on the side of the console, it almost looks like a stylized loudspeaker – simple, timeless, chic!
But I admit: That is purely a matter of taste. There are probably a lot of people who loathe the design of the Xbox Series S. I, on the other hand, think it’s absolutely brilliant!
With the Xbox Series S, Microsoft not only offers the cheapest entry into the new generation of consoles, but also has the most beautiful console up its sleeve in my opinion. But although even I see the Xbox Series S as the most promising console of the new generation, the PlayStation 5 is currently in my living room. Maybe the trend will go to the second console at some point – and if so, then it will definitely be the Xbox Series S.
