Every tenth person wants to strike – if that weren’t a problem
Switching to electric cars is becoming a real alternative for more and more people in Germany. In the next two years, one in ten people will be considering a new electric car. But potential e-car buyers face a problem.
E-cars are becoming a real alternative for many Germans
German consumers are becoming more and more positive about e-cars. 10 percent According to a Bitkom survey, they said they would like to buy an electric car for their household in the next two years.
The proportion of potential e-car buyers is highest in the age group 30 to 49 year olds with 15 percent. 14 percent of those under 30 said they would buy an electric car. At 7 and 4 percent respectively, the proportion of buyers among 50 to 64 year olds and people over 65 is significantly lower. 1,002 people aged 18 and over were surveyed.
The public charging network is becoming increasingly important for these e-car buyers. 82 percent stated that they would use publicly accessible charging stations. On the other hand, only 40 percent would consider having their own wall box for their home.
This confirms once again: The Expansion of the public charging network is crucial for the success of e-mobility in Germany. “One of the biggest obstacles to electromobility is still the weak charging network. We need a digital energy transition with a completely digital and intelligent energy network so that a nationwide supply with charging stations can be implemented as quickly as possible,” explains
Bitkom CEO Dr. Bernhard Rohleder (source: Bitkom).
Switching to electric cars: These problems must be solved
But that is not the only challenge that e-car buyers are currently facing and will probably face in the coming years. The already long delivery times for e-cars are unlikely to normalize anytime soon as a result of the Ukraine war. Still is too unclear how the environmental bonus will continue from 2023.
As Bitkom informs, the survey took place from mid-January to mid-February – and thus before the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Since then, fuel and electricity prices have increased significantly.
Why you should look around for an electric car better today than tomorrow:
The plans of the 10 percent are therefore no commitment to e-mobility despite the current cost increases. However, it cannot be ruled out that some customers will continue to be interested, even with rising prices. The following applies: If you are thinking about buying a Stromer in the next two years, you should do it soon.
