EA wants to get rid of FIFA franchise to save billion

The FIFA games may soon be renamed as EA can save billions.

FIFA has been one of the most popular sports games in the world for decades. The franchise used the officially licensed title ‘FIFA’, referring to the International Football Association. That, on the other hand, costs Electronic Arts unprecedented amounts of money and apparently they can no longer afford this with pay-to-win nonsense. That is why the publisher is considering a name change.

EA waives FIFA?

The iconic name costs Electronic Arts an estimated $150 million annually. Last year, on the other hand, it was announced that the football association would like to catch more than a billion every four years for the immensely lucrative football games.

Apparently the publisher doesn’t like that. According to VentureBeat, EA’s iconic name FIFA games starts EA Sports FC. That name was already appropriated by the publisher in 2021 and according to anonymous sources, the name change is now really coming.

Unfair costs?

FIFA therefore asks about 150 million dollars annually and may even want to increase it. Is this a fair amount? That just depends on how you look at it.

On the one hand yes. FIFA is an incredibly influential name. It is similar to F1; if that name is in the title, it’s the “official game.” You want that, don’t you? EA has made billions anyway from the notoriety of the association.

On the other hand, it is a ridiculous proposal from FIFA to ask for more, since EA only buys the name for the amount. All individual teams and players are not included in that deal. EA still has to arrange all that with the respective clubs.

In short, it is not surprising that EA wants to get rid of the name, even if it loses an iconic title.
