E-car manufacturer Nio has celebrated its start in Germany. The Chinese start-up presented three in Berlin electric car models for the German market. Interested parties cannot buy the vehicles, however, because the company only offers a subscription model.
Chinese start-up Nio continues to expand into Europe. In Berlin, the company presented three electric car models for Germany, Denmark, Sweden and the Netherlands. Interested parties cannot buy the vehicles, however, because: Nio relies exclusively on a subscription model with which customers can rent the vehicles.
Nio start e-car subscription in Germany
According to Nio includes the so-called subscription model for all three vehicles, including services, registration and insurance. The company also offers both flexible and fixed contract terms. The rental period is between one and 60 months.
The price for the Nio ET7, the company’s flagship, is around 1,200 euros for a term of 36 months. The electric sedan can be pre-ordered now and will be delivered from mid-October. Delivery of the Nio ET5 and the Nio EL7 is scheduled to start in January and March 2023 respectively.
The ET7 costs 1,500 euros for a one-month subscription. The flexible contracts are automatically extended by a further month if they are not canceled 14 days before the end of the contract. The fixed contracts in turn have a minimum term of twelve months.
Exchangeable batteries as a unique selling point
Depending on the capacity – there is a 75 kWh and a 100 kWh variant of all three vehicles – the range is between 400 and almost 600 kilometers. According to the manufacturer, charging to 80 percent is possible in 40 minutes at a fast charging station with 130 kW.
What is special about Nio’s e-cars, however, is that the company is currently the only manufacturer to offer battery replacement. This means that customers can exchange an empty battery at the Nio stations for a full one. This is again possible in about five minutes.
However, there are currently only three locations in Europe where this is possible. One of them was recently opened near Augsburg. By the end of the year, Nio intends to operate 20 such stations in Europe. In China, meanwhile, there are said to be around 1,000.
