Disney + could overtake Netflix and become number 1 in VOD by 2026
The gap between Disney + and Netflix is narrowing more and more, and especially faster than expected. Thanks to its flagship series and the development of its catalog, the platform is gaining many users every month, while the progress of its rival is slowing down visibly. Which could lift Disney + to number one streaming service by 2026.
Since its launch in 2019, Disney + has shaken the streaming planet. After only 16 months of existence, the platform has exceeded 100 million subscribers and growth is not weakening. So that Netflix may fear for its top spot. The service, which has peaked at over 200 million users since the start of the year, may well take a back seat in the coming years.
The analysts are far from making plans on the comet. In the past three months, Disney + has gained 12.4 million subscribers, leading it to a total of 116 million. However, the entertainment giant’s forecasts were rather for 112.8 million users at this time. Meanwhile, Netflix only gained 4 million subscribers in the same period.

Disney + is gradually closing the gap with Netflix
At this rate, it would only take 5 years for Disney + to count more subscribers than Netflix. A surprise for the analyzes, which thought the platform unable to reach these figures because of its catalog considered too targeted for children. But the latter has been able to diversify, with successful series like Loki and Wandavision, or the launch of its Star offer intended for a more adult audience.
However, there is one area where Disney + is still a long way off from Netflix: revenue per user. On average, Netflix earns $ 14.54 per subscriber, while Disney + earns just $ 4.16. In addition, the world number 1 in streaming could well widen the gap with the arrival of new content such as video games, which will further diversify its offer.
As such, Prime Video may well be Netflix’s only competitor, with its $ 12.99 collected per user. But this comparison cannot really be made, the price of the subscription being included in that of Amazon Prime, which integrates many other services.
