‘Did a helicopter arrive’

You can cut into a cake, pop a balloon or fill a cannon with confetti chips. Or you take it is more bombastic. Elise Gerrits didn’t know what hit her when her husband arranged a helicopter (yes, you read that right) for the

gender reveal.

“Of course I was very nervous in the morning,” says Elise. “It is my first child, my first gender reveal. I had no idea. The sex had been written on a note by the sonographer.” A confetti cannon would answer the pressing question that has been haunting Elise’s mind for weeks on Sunday afternoon.

Pink and blue

“Only when we pressed the button… it rained pink and blue confetti. I thought what is this? I only get one anyway, what will it be?” The text behind the gun then appears on the screen: ‘Everyone out now’. All the guests rush out, including a surprised Elise.

Everything appears to be thought through. The terrace of the sky bar (‘I just thought it was a nice location’) gave a perfect view of the helicopter that was flying in. “I was scared to death. Blue (biodegradable) powder also came out! I had no idea such a thing was possible!”

Surprise

Surprise from husband and dad to be Wim, who insists on delaying the press-the-button moment earlier that afternoon for ten minutes. “I thought that was crazy. Why did we have to wait? Those guns are just filled, aren’t they? But now I get it,” says Elise, “that helicopter wasn’t there yet”.

Not only friends and family now know that the two are having a boy; all of Amersfoort, plus the internet, is now talking about the baby message from the sky. “It was quite noticeable, of course. From a little further away you couldn’t see what exactly came out of the helicopter, so people were talking about that on Twitter.” Meanwhile, the two are buried with reactions and congratulations, of course.

Elise continues: “Wim likes to do things that no one else does. He also likes to surprise me, but this was also extreme for him.” How is he ever going to top this, if another little one comes along? “He can think about that now, haha!”
