Diablo II was originally supposed to see two data discs -apkrig
When you remember the legendary Diablo II, the great expansion of Lord of Destruction will certainly come to mind, in which the players had to face Baal after the defeat of Diablo and Mephistopheles. But few people know that the developers from Blizzard did not work on only one, but two extensions, although the other never saw the light of day. In a series of several tweets, Diablo designer and programmer David Brevik reminds him of what all has already been prepared and why, in the end, the second expansion remained in the drawer.
Yes, sort of… it was only designed, never produced. I had a multi-page design doc going over new classes, new areas, new mechanics and story concepts. That’s as far as it got. https://t.co/l8xHYOF6z5

Of course, it all started with an inquisitive question from one of the fans, who tagged Brevik and asked what is true about the fact that a second expansion was created for Diablo II. “Yes, a little bit,” replied the co-founder of the already defunct Blizzard North, adding more details. “[Rozšíření] it was only designed, but never got into production. I had a multi-page documentary that described new classes, areas, mechanisms, and parts of the story. I didn’t get further, “says Brevik.
I designed it about 6-12 months before I left. This is one of the reasons it was never made. It was before the 1.10 patch (in terms of timeline). We were also working on our version of Diablo 3 at the time, plus another unannounced project. https://t.co/gxCfeyD0Ou

The reason why the rounds of the development process never started is added by the designer in another tweet and the explanation is quite prosaic – he left Blizzard before everything was ready. “I worked on it for about 6-12 months before I left. This is one of the reasons why enlargement never arose. It can be set in time before patch 1.10, “reveals the designer. He then reveals that already in 2002 they were also preparing the concept of an unannounced project and especially Diablo III, which was to be completely different and rather a combination of MMO and action RPG. But without Brevik’s presence, Diablo III was not born in Blizzard until 10 years later, and as you well know, the idea of a hack’n’slash RPG remained true. In the end, Brevik kept a slight wink for the fans as he answered the question of whether there was any chance that he had hidden the concept of the unrealized expansion and boasted about it on the Internet: “I can’t confirm or deny anything.”
As for Diablo II, we can also mention numerous speculations on the account of the expected remake or remaster. It is based on the assumption that Vicarous Visions people who have become part of Activision should work on the game and, for example, thanks to the great N.Sane trilogy by Crash Bandicoot, they are suitable adepts for another remake of the legend in a similar spirit. We wrote about the situation last May and mentioned that after the release of Crash Team Racing, Vicarious Visions did not announce any new title, which records the consideration that they are working on something secret and who knows, maybe we will see a revelation at the end of the week during BlizzCon. As a patch for the information that Diablo IV will not be released this year, we would take the improved Diablo II without grumbling!
