Deezer launches tool to detect AI-generated music
The French music streaming service Deezer announces that it has developed a technology that allows it to identify music cloning the voices of artists via artificial intelligence.
By detecting AI-generated content on its platform, Deezer aims to develop a system for tagging music that has been created by generative AI, starting with songs using synthetic vocals from existing artists. This information will be used to alert artists, labels, and users to AI-generated content on the platform, to reduce fraudulent activity, and to develop a compensation model that distinguishes between different types of music creation.
“Our goal is to eliminate illegal and fraudulent content, increase transparency and develop a new compensation system where professional artists are rewarded for creating valuable content”, said Deezer CEO Jeronimo Folgueira.
This is an announcement that comes as artificial intelligence is booming and is shaking up many sectors, including music. In mid-February, David Guetta was talked about by using AI for a voice like Eminem for one of his shows. The artist did not market this title, explaining to the BBC that he wanted “open the discussion for awareness”.
