Daimler’s Edelstromer is not just coming to the IAA Mobility
Daimler intends to make a big splash at the beginning of September as part of the IAA Mobility 2021, which will be held in Munich for the first time: Five all-electric cars are to celebrate their premiere – among other things, the E-Class counterpart Mercedes Benz EQE will be unveiled.
After Daimler announced its electric strategy in July and thus turned its back on combustion engines by the end of the decade, the Stuttgart-based car company seems to want to tackle a large-scale electrical program as early as September: Of the eight premieres of the brands Mercedes-Benz, Mercedes-EQ, Mercedes-AMG, Mercedes-Maybach and Smart at the IAA Mobility are five purely electrically powered, according to Daimler.

Mercedes EQE: Little sister of the EQS with hyperscreen comes to the IAA
Two years after Daimler unveiled the EQS as a concept at the IAA 2019 (at that time in Frankfurt), the car manufacturer is now using the fair to present its somewhat smaller sister model, the EQE. Both models not only share the in-house EVA platform designed for electric drives, but also the hyperscreen introduced with the Mercedes EQS.
As with the EQS, the huge curved display will certainly only be optional, the interior appears to be from a spaceship in the press photo. In contrast to the EQS, the EQE should be a little shorter, which is already indicated in the further previously published teaser image of the electric sedan.
Daimler at the IAA 2021: German premiere for the EQB and more
Apart from the EQE, Daimler now wants to bring its SUV EBQ, which was announced for the Chinese market at the Shanghai Auto Show, to other markets. In contrast to the EQE, which is based on a purely electric platform, the EQB is an electrified version of the GLB with optional up to seven seats.
Furthermore, Daimler wants to show the first all-electric luxury sedan from Mercedes-AMG. The car manufacturer is pursuing the goal of “combining the clear brand commitment to fully electric models with typical AMG characteristics”. This applies not only to the pure performance data, but also to the emotional driving experience, according to Daimler.
In addition, the manufacturer will be giving a preview of a new, all-electric Smart with a show car. We remember: The Smart brand is now a joint venture with the Chinese car maker Geely. The first model of the new partnership is to be an SUV instead of a small car.
There are also plans to premiere a performance hybrid from AMG, which is to be presented under the “E Performance” label. In addition, a purely electric concept vehicle from Mercedes-Maybach is to be expected, with which it is to be shown how the traditions of the brand can be transferred into the electric age.
Since Daimler has revealed the first details on only four purely electric models in advance, the manufacturer could also give an outlook on the EQG. Rumors of an IAA mobility premiere of an electric version of the G-Class have been circulating at least since mid-July.
