Cybersecurity: Microsoft and Google to invest billions of dollars
Google and Microsoft have made commitments regarding cybersecurity, to the point of investing tens of billions of dollars. The announcement follows a meeting at the White House with the bosses of Apple, Google, Microsoft, IBM, Amazon and other technology groups.
Tens of billions of dollars for cybersecurity
Google will invest over $ 10 billion over five years to strengthen cybersecurity. The group is committed to training 100,000 Americans in technical areas such as IT support and data analysis through its Career Certificate program. Google’s financial commitment will serve, among other things, to strengthen the software supply chain and open source security.
For its part, Microsoft announces an investment of 20 billion dollars. This sum will be spread over five years to provide more advanced security tools, according to Satya Nadella, the group’s CEO. He add that Microsoft will invest $ 150 million to help government agencies upgrade their security systems and expand cybersecurity training partnerships. Microsoft spends $ 1 billion a year on cybersecurity since 2015.
On the IBM side, we announcement trained over 150,000 people in cybersecurity skills in three years. The group also announces that it will partner with historically black colleges and universities to help diversify the workforce. Additionally, the company will launch a new data storage solution for critical infrastructure companies and said it is working on creating secure encryption methods for quantum computing.
Finally, Amazon Web Services (AWS), the cloud division of Amazon, will offer free of charge to account holders of multifactor authentication devices in order to better secure their data. The group also plans to offer security awareness training to organizations and individuals.
