Cheering swimming coach at Olympics is an instant classic meme
A swimming coach went crazy at the Olympics. Behold the birth of an instant classic meme here!
Swimmer Ariarne Titmus is from Australia and made her mark at her first ever Olympics by beating US champion Katie Ledecky to take gold in the women’s 400m freestyle final. Her coach was also very happy with it.
Swimming coach is an instant classic meme
The swimmer’s nickname is ‘Arnie’ and she broke her own personal best with 3:56.69, ahead of Ledecky’s 3:57.36. Ledecky put up a real fight, with the last few meters being a real close-knit race. The swimmer’s victory is of course great, but the internet really went wild at another indelible moment.
Namely the reaction of her coach, Dean Boxall, who went all out with poison joy in the stands. Nice to see an Olympics employee still trying to temper Dean so that he stays in place. Fortunately, it doesn’t work and here’s the birth of an instant classic meme.
Joy
The swimming coach has, of course, trained the female swimmer for years. When the moment comes when she wins a big prize, the joy is enormous. This moment of joy is an obvious instant classic response that will live on on the internet for years to come. Because there are already quite a few sports GIFs that we still use. We suspect that this new GIF will be on that list. And rightly so, it’s a nice over-the-top response. But one that is recognizable if your pupil wins a place at the Olympics.
