Cabinet is working on CoronaCheck app as a corona passport: this is how he will work
During the press conference of Rutte and De Jonge, more information was shared about the development of a new app. The CoronaCheck app can work as a corona passport.
Corona passport in CoronaCheck app
A new application is expected in May, which will be available in addition to the well-known Coronamelder app. The application will be called CoronaCheck and can serve as a corona passport. In this way, the Dutch should be given more freedom and, for example, participate in events.
The CoronaCheck app must work as a corona passport. A check mark can be displayed if someone has been vaccinated or tested negative for Covid-19 shortly before. It should not be visible to anyone else whether or not someone has been vaccinated. Before this functionality becomes available, the government wants to investigate whether a vaccinated person cannot pass the virus on again.
A QR code is generated in the application that can be scanned by organizers, for example. The organizer then sees whether the conditions are met, whereby the chance that the person is carrying the corona virus is small.
According to Hugo de Jonge, the application can already be tested in the near future, for example at Fieldlab events. In addition, the application, if available, can not only work at events, but also come in handy when visiting a museum. The government has indicated that the application is only used in non-essential places. This means that such proof is not required for visiting government buildings or on public transport.
Several other things that could be at play could still be worked on. This is to prevent fraud by using someone else’s phone with a green tick of a negative proof.
