Boo
Boo started in 2020 and soon had more than a million users. The app promises that you don’t have to swipe endlessly. Yep, makes sense: it pretty much looks like Tinder, but you can’t swipe, you can only tap a like or dislike button to send someone “love” or not. The idea of Boo is that you date based on your personality, although it also has zodiac signs, for example, quite prominently displayed among its users. This app generally works pretty much like other apps; when you create an account, you answer some questions, such as the question what you do when a good friend is sad: do you immediately go to that person or do you prefer not to talk about feelings?
After a lot of questions (although you can choose not to do that or to fill in a smaller questionnaire) a kind of profile has been created and based on that people can better match you. But in addition, of course, you need to build a profile with photos, a bio, and so on. Then of course you will also be asked whether you want to take out a subscription: don’t do that at the beginning, first look the cat out of the tree. You may not like this app at all.

Dating app
It does have a few charming points: sending that ‘love’ immediately comes across as a lot nicer than getting a ‘like’, but there is also a kind of social media thing built in where you can make posts as you would on Twitter. doing. You can go to a kind of general timeline where you can see all those posts. It’s a charming addition, though it’s a bit odd reading random people’s cat photos and opinions. Of course you do that often, but because it is here in the dating scene, it takes some getting used to.
In addition, there is another major flaw in the app. He has language problems. One screen in a menu is completely in Dutch, the next is half English/half Dutch and then when you receive ‘love’ in English you will see that someone likes you. It’s a bit chaotic. Too bad, because Boo is well put together: the idea of a kind of Tinder meets social media, in which it is a little less hunting, but more about who you are as a person.
Language problem
Of course it also depends on how others treat you, but it seems that Boo with his cute ghosts really goes for a slightly different path. It’s just a pity that the app seems so strange in terms of language. As a result, your ‘phishing’ alarm bells will soon go off and the app will therefore seem less reliable. Shame. In itself, we could use a little more love and fun in this world. So don’t let those strange translations (or the lack of translations) scare you away at first. But at the same time, pay attention to what this app collects from you before you just enter into such a free (or paid) account.
