BlackBerry puts an end to its old smartphones: nothing works anymore
January 4, 2022 marks the final end support for older BlackBerry smartphones. This applies to models that run BlackBerry OS 7.1 or earlier, as well as BlackBerry OS 10. The same goes for the Playbook tablet.
Old BlackBerry smartphones are definitely dead
For once, the end of the old BlackBerry smartphones from January 4, 2022 is anything but a joke. Terminals will lose access to calls, text messages, the Internet and even emergency calls. The company adds that connecting to operator networks will be very complicated, if not simply impossible. The same goes for the Wi-Fi connection which will be seriously disrupted.
As a reminder, BlackBerry OS first saw the light of day in 2013. The promised software support period ended over a year ago now.
Of course, none of this comes as a surprise. BlackBerry closed its app store and popular BBM messaging service in 2019. There really was no going back. The Canadian company, which was well established over 10 years ago with its smartphones with a physical keyboard, reacted far too late to the iPhone threat and failed to find much success in adopting Android. . At least it still has QNX, its modern operating system that powers infotainment systems from Toyota, Audi, Honda, and many other popular automakers. Also, BlackBerry has been offering several services for businesses for several years.
