Some users with Microsoft Bing as their home screen saw the first images of Bing with ChatGPT. According to observers, Google had better be very concerned.

Until now, the Microsoft search engine Bing has led a languishing existence. More than 95% of all searches are done via competitor Google. Everyone knows the story that the number one search on Bing is ‘Google’. But this could well be about to change. Microsoft has announced that ChatGPT will be integrated into Bing.

That these are not just words from Microsoft became clear from leaked screenshots of some users who have set Bing as their home page. For several minutes, according to these users, a version of Bing was shown with the option to use ChatGPT to search. Microsoft, meanwhile, has declined to confirm or deny these reports. So it is not yet 100% sure if this is correct.

‘Bing with ChatGPT also lists sources’

It is still possible to use the traditional way of searching in the new version of Bing. You can switch in the search bar. You can have an entire conversation with Bing with ChatGPT. It also asks you questions in order to provide targeted information.

Interestingly, and a huge improvement over ChatGPT now, in Bing with ChatGPT sources are also given for the claims the Ai makes and ChatGPT seems to have been updated with the latest information. A big, and justified, criticism of ChatGPT is that the client often gives answers that sound very impressive, but are wrong. See for example ChatGPT’s Apparata article with hilarious errors.

You can overcome this objection with what apparently happened in Bing, namely citing sources. So if Microsoft addresses this weakness, and so it seems, it will turn the mediocre search engine Bing into a product that rivals Google. Because by means of a natural sentence you can explain much better what you are looking for than by means of keywords.

What will Google’s counter move be?

Both Google founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page have always seen Google as an AI company, and the company has put many man hours into developing superior AI. According to sources who have looked closely at the system, Google’s own chat AI, LamDA, is much better than ChatGPT and even convinced one of the creators that the AI has sentience.

However, the company has been much more careful with this than competitor OpenAI. This seems to have broken Google now. Reportedly, Google will now link LamDA to its own search engine. So, in addition to Bing with ChatGPT, we’re going to see Google with LamDA as well. A titanic battle, in which the consumer is the big winner. Let’s just hope the AI doesn’t go wild. Because connecting a super-smart AI to the internet is not without risks, as sci-fi enthusiasts know.
