Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Plus – best high-end Android tablet
Many different brands have focused on budget tablets in recent years, but Samsung makes the best Android tablets in the high price segment. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Plus is the mid-range model in the Tab S8 series launched in Spring 2022, and for most people looking for a powerful tablet, it best fills that role.
Unlike the LCD screen of the Galaxy Tab S8 base model, the Plus version comes with a beautiful AMOLED screen that has a size of 12.4 inches. With the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset you can be sure of smooth performance. You can easily edit photos in Snapseed, edit videos on the go in Adobe Rush or play Fortnite with the highest graphics settings.
Netflix streaming and drawing
12.4 inches is a nice size for a screen, because in combination with a keyboard you can get some work done, while the tablet is still quite compact to take with you. It is also a pleasant format to watch movies and series and you will also be able to enjoy the four AKG speakers.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Plus comes with the S Pen, Samsung’s stylus that is pressure sensitive and supports smart gestures. The tablet also comes with various drawing apps and we like them at the editors. PenUp is an accessible app, while Clip Studio Paint gives you professional tools for detailed drawings.
Better an iPad Pro?
You may have heard that Apple’s iPads have better software experiences compared to Android tablets, but that gap has narrowed in recent months. Android 13’s interface is optimized for large screens, and Google is also rapidly making improvements to its custom tablet apps. Samsung also supports its Galaxy Tab S8 tablets for a long time, as they get five years of security updates and four version updates.
In our review of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Plus we wrote the following:
“If you are looking for a high-end tablet with powerful drawing functions that also works with Android, there is no worthy alternative. Consumers can choose iPad Pro, but the version with its 12.9-inch screen costs almost 300 euros more than this Tab S8 Plus.”

Alternatives
The Lenovo Tab P11 Pro (2nd Gen) is a cheaper alternative. It has a smaller 11.2 inch AMOLED screen and a lighter MediaTek Kompanio 1300T chipset, which still gets most tasks done smoothly. With 8 GB of RAM, the Tab P11 Pro (2nd Gen) is also great for multitasking and it has four JBL speakers, which is nice when you watch series. The Tab P11 Pro 2nd (Gen) has a beautiful aluminum housing. In terms of updates, you can expect less from Lenovo, namely two Android updates.

In addition to the cheaper Redmi Pad, the Chinese tech company also sells its Xiaomi Pad 5 in the Netherlands. The Pad 5 is, as usual, equipped with interesting specifications for an accessible price. It works with the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset and with 6 GB of RAM. There are four speakers on board, but Xiaomi pushes the price with the choice of an LCD screen and a plastic back. This tablet can also count on less good update support.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra should of course not be missing from this overview. We didn’t select it as the best choice because of its higher price and large 14.6-inch screen, which is a bit much for some applications. But the device is particularly suitable as a drawing tablet and also for those who often work with multiple apps side by side in split screen. In addition, it is very suitable for video meetings and with its second selfie camera – a wide-angle lens – it can capture several people.
