Scientists from all over the world use supercomputers to conduct research, but access to such computers is limited. With Vodafone Foundation’s DreamLab app, everyone can contribute for free by contributing to medical research, including research into cancer and the coronavirus. You do this while your phone is on the charger overnight. So the app (preferably) uses the computing power at night when the phone is not in use. The phone can solve about 1,800 minor research problems in six hours when fully charged.

The website ‘DontKillMyApp’ has an app, DontKillMyApp: Make apps work, from the maker of the well-known sleep app Sleep as Android. This app uses a benchmark of your phone to map out which smartphone manufacturers deal most aggressively with background processes. The app also provides tips on how to bypass certain background process restrictions so that you can regain control of the apps you have installed.
Appy Weather: The most personal weather app
Those looking for a somewhat friendly weather application should definitely check out Appy Weather. This app features a weather chat that starts with “Good morning,” and it stands out for its handy interface with a well-arranged timeline. Appy Weather comes with a clear description of the weather forecast, but if you want more extensive information, you can also view it. Appy Weather is one of our editor-in-chief Claudia’s favorites. The app is completely free, but it includes in-app purchases.

ruff: ⚡ notes, lists & drafts writing app comes from the same developer as Appy Weather and can be seen as a super simple digital notebook. You can use Ruff on Android and Chrome OS to type down your thoughts or keep notes during a meeting. Swiping right will save the note so you can do something else. The app also has a dark and a light theme and contains some options to adjust the font. The app focuses on writing and makes it as easy as possible.
