Bench: Apple’s A14 does better than the Snapdragon 888
Benchmarks from Snapdragon 888, the chip that will equip high-end Android smartphones in 2021, have arrived and are worse than Apple’s A14. This chip is present in the iPhone 12.
In the Geekbench test, the Snapdragon 888 obtained a score of 1,135 with a processor core, against 1,603 for the A14. In reality, Qualcomm’s chip does not match the A13 of the iPhone 11, which scores 1,331.
In the test with all the processor cores, the Snapdragon 888 obtained a score of 3,794, compared to 4,187 for the A14. For its part, the A13 gets 3,366. Here, the Qualcomm chip does a little better than Apple’s from 2019.
In the GFXBench test, which focuses on the graphics, the Snadrapgon manages to have 86 frames per second. This rises to 102.24 for the iPhone 12 with the A14. IPhone 11s with the A13 are at 91.
Apple therefore does better than Qualcomm when it comes to raw performance. We must now see if the A14 manages to keep its first place after several minutes of use. Qualcomm does not yet communicate the consumption of the Snapdragon 888, so it is currently difficult to know who will win. But according to AnantTech, Qualcomm can potentially beat Apple if consumption fluctuates between 4 and 4.5 W.
Still, the Snapdragon 888 is a big step up from the Snapdragon 865. CPU performance is up 25% and GPU performance up 35%.
