Battery problems with your Nest Doorbell? That could be right
In addition to a wired doorbell, Google Nest also has a wireless doorbell that runs on a battery. But this one is not without problems.
We experienced no problems in our Google Nest Doorbell review, but that was also in a different period with different weather conditions. There are several noises that the wireless doorbell is not functioning properly in combination with the cold weather. Complaints from owners of the smart doorbell are pouring in on forums. The battery would be empty very quickly and then the doorbell has to be connected to the charger again.
The problem is even more serious. Google has identified the issues itself. In extreme circumstances, the doorbell can even stop completely. Now we do not have such severe winters in the Netherlands, so you should not expect such problems with us. But it is plausible that the battery drains faster than in the summer. Even using the doorbell wired can cause problems in combination with (harsh) winters. At a temperature of 0 degrees or colder, the Nest Doorbell and Cam products sometimes refuse to charge.
Depending on the number of movements in front of your door, according to Google, the battery should last more than a month in the most ideal conditions. That was not the case during my test period. Despite an indicated detection zone, the doorbell sensor still registers movements in front of the door. The doorbell does not film this and you will not receive a notification, but the product is aware of the presence of humans or animals. That costs battery. In the coldest period of last winter, the battery was sometimes empty after 2.5 weeks.
More information from Google about the Nest Doorbell on battery can be read on the Support page of the tech company. Spring is coming and that’s good news for your wireless smart doorbell, if you have one. With warmer weather, it does not have to be recharged as often.
