AW Poll: you like a Wear OS smartwatch from Samsung
Is Samsung going to switch from Tizen to Wear OS? Rumors say they have evidence for that decision. What do our readers think of such a switch? In this week’s AW Poll the opinion of our readers was asked, this time you read the results of the poll.
Samsung opts for Wear OS
Sources from various rumors – including the usually reliable Ice Universe – state that Samsung plans to equip the upcoming Galaxy smartwatches with Wear OS. A switch would be made immediately from Samsung’s own Tizen to Google’s platform. The reason behind this leaked choice is not yet known. At the same time, it remains important to take the leaked details with a grain of salt, as they are rumors of which it is difficult to verify the correctness.
If the information is correct, it will mean that Samsung will have to conform to the requirements of Wear OS. In addition, it will have to say goodbye to its own speech assistant Bixby, and will have less freedom in designing the operating system. OPPO and Xiaomi have shown that Google seems to be open to adjustments to the platform. After all, OPPO has given the appearance of the Wear OS interface on its OPPO Watch a ColorOS flavor.
How the switch to Wear OS would turn out for Galaxy smartwatches on Tizen remains ‘coffee grounds to watch’. Samsung could run old smartwatches on Tizen, but that would mean developers have to develop for both platforms. It might make more sense to update old Galaxy smartwatches to Wear OS. Since Samsung has not made any statements about the rumors, that is something that you as a Galaxy Watch owner do not have to think about for the time being.
AW Poll: to buy or not to buy?
This also applies to the purchase of a Galaxy watch, for the time being you can still go to the Galaxy Watch 3 and Galaxy Watch Active 2. Still, last week we asked in our AW Poll if you would buy a Galaxy Watch with Wear OS on it. would run. A large majority of our readers (46 percent) indicate that they would purchase a Galaxy Watch with Wear OS. A fifth (20 percent) of our readers let this depend on the design of Wear OS, while a slightly smaller part of the readers (19 percent) let this depend on the quality of the watch.
The share of readers who are not in the mood for a Wear OS smartwatch from Samsung anyway is 11 percent. The fact that such a Galaxy Watch with Wear OS would be popular with our readers may have to do with the quality feeling they have at Samsung, or the ease with which Wear OS works with any Android device. Furthermore, the comments also mention the integration of services from Google, such as its own Assistant.
