Auto Germany cannot go on like this
As Head of Audi, Markus Duesmann naturally stands behind the car product. But apparently not at any price. The head of the traditional brand calls on German motorists to rethink and strikes an unfamiliar tone for a manager in the automotive industry. Even a driving ban is a possibility for him.

Audi boss Duesmann wants to get cars off the road
When looking at the prices at the pump, many drivers in Germany are currently tightening their belts. There is no longer a trace of the tank discount, especially the prices for a liter of diesel are so high that many people are not allowed to take unnecessary jaunts. If you can, leave the car there sometimes.
But by no means everyone can simply do without, for example, they are dependent on a set of wheels for and during work. But what if the waiver were mandatory? That’s exactly what Audi CEO Markus Duesmann is now proposing: “In order to get us in Germany better attuned to the situation and the need to save, could there be car-free days again, like in the 1970s? That would be the more drastic step in his eyes, but a speed limit could also make a contribution, to alleviate the extremely expensive phase somewhat. Not directly from the price side, but through appropriate action. Incidentally, both measures would also be valuable contributions in the fight against the climate crisis.

Positive price signal: Saving fuel doesn’t just help your wallet
Ultimately, what Duesmann is proposing for automobile traffic is nothing other than the often-repeated calls from federal politicians to consumers and industry to save on heating. Careful use of fossil, finite resources can not only alleviate concerns about bottlenecks, but also reduce costs. If you use less, you have to buy less – that applies to us end consumers as well as to the market. Frugality could even have a positive impact on prices in the long term.
Our TankenApp also helps to save on fuel costs:
According to Duesmann, relying on a voluntary waiver is not enough. You don’t have to be the “only controller” to call for conscious handling of the car. The Audi boss is certain: “We have to rethink, realize that our lives are changing.” He himself would use a car-free Sunday for an extensive racing bike tour on the autobahn. A ban would also have advantages.
