Apple’s AirPlay 2 and HomeKit coming soon to Amazon TVs
Fire TV Omni and Series 4, the two ranges of televisions fromAmazon, are preparing to support Apple’s AirPlay 2 and HomeKit. An update is planned with this support.
Amazon TVs to support AirPlay 2 and HomeKit
The Verge reports that support for AirPlay 2 and HomeKit on Amazon TVs is coming “soon”, but there isn’t a specific release date just yet. For once, Amazon is already familiar with Apple’s technologies since the merchant has integrated them into Toshiba and Insignia televisions which run on Fire TV, its operating system. And surprisingly, Amazon still doesn’t offer them on its other products in the Fire line.
AirPlay 2 will allow users to easily play content from an iPhone, iPad, or Mac on an Amazon TV, while HomeKit integration will allow some TV functions to be controlled from the Home app or with Siri.
The two ranges of televisions are released today in the United States (no date for Europe yet). The Omni models are the top of the range supporting 4K, with panels of 43, 50, 55, 65 and 75 inches. We find support for HDR10 and HLG. The 65 and 75 inch models are also eligible for Dolby Vision. Amazon also mentions the support of Dolby Digital Plus for the sound part. Regarding the Series 4, Amazon indicates that there are 43, 50 and 55 inch panels with 4K again. The HDR10 is present, as is the HLG. Dolby Vision is however absent on this range.
