Apple Watch Series 7 will have 16% more pixels with the larger screen

The Apple Watch Series 7 will be entitled to larger screens with 41 and 46mm cases. Bloomberg reports that Apple will take advantage of the new size to display more information.

16% more pixels for the Apple Watch Series 7

The 45mm Apple Watch Series 7 will have a 1.9-inch screen with a resolution of 396 x 484 pixels, compared to a 1.78-inch screen with a resolution of 368 x 448 pixels on the current 44mm model. So there will be 16% more pixels on the new watch. There is no information on the size in inches and the definition for the screen with the 41 mm model, but we should expect a gain with more pixels anyway. In any case, the two models will have the right to finer borders around the screen.

New dials to exploit the new screen

In order to take full advantage of the new size of the screens, Apple will offer new dials. One of them, Modular Max, will display the time next to a small complication (indicating information like the day of the week, the outside temperature or quick access to an app). There will also be larger complications that will run the length of the screen, stacked on top of each other. This is an improvement over the current Modular Infograph dial, which can only display one large complication.

Another dial is called Continuum. It will change according to the time. Yet another dial will feature world time, allowing the user to view all 24 time zones simultaneously. One display will show the time zones, while another will show the time in each location. Users will be able to choose to display the time in digital or analog mode. We can also mention Hermèse and Nike dials which are in preparation.

The Apple Watch Series 7 is due to be announced next month, during the iPhone 13 keynote. The watch will have a case with flat bezels, a faster processor and therefore a larger screen. This will also benefit from a new rolling technique.

Other projects for the future

For 2022, Apple is planning a new version of the Apple Watch SE, a robust Apple Watch oriented towards extreme sportsmen and the Apple Watch Series 8. The latter would notably have the right to a body temperature sensor.

Beyond 2022, Apple plans other Apple Watches with a particular focus on health. We had already dealt with this subject in this dedicated article.
