Apple Watch Series 7 vs Apple Watch Series 6
During the Apple event on September 14, Apple also added a new Apple Watch to the range in addition to the iPhone 13, iPad 2021 and iPad mini 2021.
The Apple Watch Series 7 will appear in the fall, but will the new smartwatch be worth buying? Or could you just as well go for the Apple Watch Series 6? And what if you already have an Apple Watch Series 6? Enough things to make you doubt.
In this article we list the differences between the Apple Watch Series 7 and Series 6, so that you can make an informed choice.
1. Design: more and stronger screen, with less bezel
Apple has not tinkered much with the design of the Watch. That’s why the Apple Watch Series 7 looks almost the same as the Series 6. Until you take a closer look: the Series 7 has more screen. This is because the edges of the latest smartwatch have become considerably narrower. Series 7 has 20 percent more display than the Apple Watch 6 and even 50 percent more than the Apple Watch Series 3.
By the way, the brightness has also been adjusted. Apple indicates that the screen of the Series 7 is up to seventy percent brighter indoors (in the always-on mode). Furthermore, the glass is half thicker and a lot stronger. The Apple Watch Series 7 now also complies with the IP6X standard.
2. Colors: some new and some old familiar ones
The Apple Watch Series 6 is available in gold, silver, space gray, blue and red. The colors of the Apple Watch Series 7 are a tad different. Red and blue are back, but there are also new colors. These are starlight (white), midnight (black) and green. Do you really want a green Apple Watch? Then you should go for the Series 7.
3. Series 7 vs Series 6: Battery Life and Charging
The Apple Watch Series 7 charges about 33 percent faster than the Series 6. However, the battery life has remained the same (18 hours). Incidentally, the Series 6 also charged 20 percent faster than its predecessor. This means that charging is much faster when, for example, you switch from a Series 3 to a Series 7.
Incidentally, the Apple Watch Series 7 takes 45 minutes to charge to 80 percent. In addition, eight minutes on the charger is enough to keep track of your sleep pattern for eight hours.
4. New watch faces
For the new screen, there are also a few new watch faces. For example, there is an improved version of the modular clock; nice to post different complications. Furthermore, Apple has added a full keyboard. This makes typing easier by swiping your finger over the letters on the screen.
5. Two new sizes: 41mm and 45mm
Furthermore, Apple has increased the sizes of the case to 41 and 45 millimeters (mm), but you don’t notice that much in practice. This is a tad bigger than the previous generation. The Apple Watch Series 6 is available in 40mm and 44mm sizes. That’s neat: your old straps can be used on the Series 7.
6. Price and availability
The Apple Watch Series 7 will only come to the Netherlands in the fall. Apple has only given the US prices.
- Apple Watch Series 7 (41mm): $399
- Apple Watch Series 7 (45mm): $429
- Apple Watch Series 7 Cellular (41mm): $499
- Apple Watch Series 7 Cellular (45mm): $529
As you can see, the US prices have remained the same as those of the Apple Watch Series 6. So the expected prices in the Netherlands for the Apple Watch Series 7 are therefore:
- Apple Watch Series 7 (41mm): €428.25
- Apple Watch Series 7 (45mm): €458.25
- Apple Watch Series 7 Cellular (41mm): €528.25
- Apple Watch Series 7 Cellular (45mm): €558.25
The prices of the Apple Watch 6 are now dropping nicely. For about 345 euros you already have a 40 mm version. You can even get a refurbished Series 6 for less.

Buying advice: Apple Watch Series 7 vs Apple Watch Series 6
But to the point! Should you switch right away when the Apple Watch Series 7 hits stores this fall? If you already own an Apple Watch Series 6, the answer is no, probably not. Only if you really think the larger screen is important or if you want one of the new colors is it worth a switch.
It’s a different story if you still have an older Apple Watch. For example, do you still have an Apple Watch Series 5 or even a Watch Series 3? Then the Series 7 is a major upgrade.
But even then, the switch to, for example, an Apple Watch Series 6 is already a big deal. Since the Series 3, Apple has added a lot of cool features, such as the ECG function for heart movies and saturator. In addition, the Series 6 is already a lot faster.
Also keep in mind that the Apple Watch Series 6 is already available now. For the Apple Watch Series 7, you’ll have to wait a little longer until autumn.
